OIB-TAC Course Gets New Name

Our course, formerly titled Cultural Diversity and Humility, has a new name.  Check out Understanding Cultural Differences and Their Impact on Service Delivery!

Understanding Cultural Differences and Their Impact on Service Delivery will provide an overview of key considerations for providing vision rehabilitation services with cultural awareness, humility, and competence. This course emphasizes the importance of awareness of personal cultural orientations, understanding the effect culture has on interaction with consumers, and the impact of agency policies and culture on practice with diverse consumers.

This course is available for 2.0 hours of CRC, ACVREP, and NBPCB credit.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize the importance of being sensitive to cultural differences.
  • Understand the effect culture has on interactions with consumers.
  • Recognize the differences in the terms “cultural competence,” “cultural awareness,” “cultural humility,” and “cultural sensitivity."
  • Develop strategies to increase awareness of personal biases and misconceptions and reduce the impact of these factors on consumers.
  • Understand the importance of organization/agency cultural competence.
